Important Information about Dog Show Photos

First off, an overwhelming amount of support through requested photos has been building up and I thank you all for that support and your patience as I work through 'processing' images for the web albums.

Dog Shows tend to have 2-3 rings going at once so I must operate pretty much by request; that is, I can try my very best to cover a specific dog IF you have requested WELL in ADVANCE of that dog going into the ring and that means first thing in the morning on the first day of a multiple show weekend and day before for days 2/3.

As more and more requests come in over a weekend, the tendency for me is to focus on the entry numbers, not the breed or even group so sometimes, entire breeds or even groups will be left out on any given day or weekend if no requests made from that breed/group/class.

And, even if I did get a few shots of your dog in the ring, due to the nature of dog shows with regard to the fast pace, placement of tables, judges, other dogs/handlers in a challenge, background distractions, angle of light etc etc, I still may not be able to get a stunningly perfect shot of gait or stack.

Also, some dogs may have been missed if I was anticipating their run at a certain time but several scratches took place previous, pushing them way ahead of schedule.

The earlier the request, the more shot selections I will probably be able to offer for your dog and, of course, if the dog continues to win breed/group/class, it may well have many more images on offer than others.

I think I do pretty well under the circumstances, particularly with gait shots but if you want really nice looking stack shots, best bet is to arrange a time with me to pose these just after the specials are run each day. If your dog won a sash, most judges seem perfectly happy to pose with the breeder/owner/handler/dog at the end of a day.

When all the 'shooting' is done and all digital images backed up in several places, then I can get down to the business of reviewing and preparing them to upload to the albums. This is very time consuming as I may well shoot thousands of shots over a weekend so I can get a few hundred 'good' ones to post. I still have to go through all of them looking for the specific entry numbers and the 'good' ones of those. I do have to crop most of the photos in order to show any given dog at the best possible magnification and I sometimes do a small amount of light control or straightening at this time.

This means it could be at least 2-3 weeks before there is a really good representation of requested photos up on the web albums and longer for the rest of the 'good' images I may have of dogs which weren't specifically requested.

Re: Australia Day Weekend 2010 shows

I have nearly 6000 images to trawl through. I am trying to prioritise those who made specific requests by entry number or breed/class in addition to the order in which I received these requests.

If I did not receive a specific request WELL BEFORE the dog went in the ring (like at least the day before), you may be disappointed this time around. Even if made a request, still may be a bit disappointed as there were 3 rings going most of the time so I would have given preference in order of receiving requests and unable to anticipate events such as multiple scratchings which may have affected the timetable for entire breeds.

If you are really really keen or under a tight deadline to provide a photo for a newsletter or breeder website, please email me at jancollettATgmailDOTcom and include your entry number or dog breed, class, kennel or owner name as in the catalog and/or any other identifying information that would help me locate any photos I may have.

Again, thank you for your support and understanding.
